We’ve also made the conscious decision to print using the new Océ ProStream; the most environmentally friendly printing press ever built with a lower carbon footprint than a Xerox.

Our waterless, chemical free digital production system uses food-safe ink and toner, making de-inking paper for recycling a seamless process and Fast Proof Press a business that can manufacture for future generations.

GREEN WORK INITIATIVES

REDUCED ENERGY CONSUMPTION

We have recently invested heavily in a 175kVar Power Factor Device that is employed to smooth the power consumption on our larger machines and as our business continues to mature we have plans to create battery assisted solar renewable energy. Our ultimate goal is to create a completely carbon neutral offset printing gold coast solution that we as a business can stand behind and be proud of, offering our customers a premium product that has been produced without negatively impacting the world in which we live.

RECYCLING PAPER WASTE + INKS

Within 3 days from leaving our facility, binned paper becomes tissue thanks to our closed-loop Australian Paper Recycling system. This has lead to some incredible statistics in volumes of recycled materials and other consumables …
On average we recycle more than 12tons of waste paper per week, which equates to 624,000kgs of paper recycled each year. This ultimately results in the creation of other paper products, some of which re-enters our facility to become new printed material.

Our carefully selected range of inks are now 100% vegetable-based that are proven to be more friendly to the paper recycling process. In the de-inking process this ink-type releases itself from paper fibres more easily.

WASTE REDUCTION

Our production methods have been streamlined to reduce our environmental impact. In pre-press, our direct to plate production has eliminated film processing and its inherent silver waste disposal issues. Also, more currently we have now “Chemical Free Processing” on our plate line, making our pre-printing production best in practice.

With the investment in our Komori Super Perfector we have been able to reduce our use of wash-up solvent by 65%, fountain solution by 50%, and paper make-ready and size use by 22%. Our Ink waste has also been dramatically reduced since this investment in 2005.

FSC CERTIFICATION

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international non-profit, multi-stakeholder organization established in 1993 to promote responsible management of the world’s forests. The FSC does this by setting standards on forest products, along with certifying and labelling them as eco-friendly.
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC is a non-profit organization devoted to encouraging the responsible management of the world’s forests. FSC sets high standards that ensure forestry is practiced in an environmentally responsible, socially beneficial, and economically viable way. To use the FSC logo as an environmental claim on paper, the product must have flowed through the FSC Chain of Custody from the FSC Certified Forest, to a paper manufacturer, to a merchant, and finally to a FSC Certified Printer.

LEVEL 2 – SUSTAINABLE GREEN PRINT

Sustainable Green Print (SGP) is the industry’s environmental certification program run by Printing Industries Association of Australia that saves members money through reduced waste, and provides a verifiable green competitive edge. Based on ISO14001 framework, SGP is tailored to meet the needs of business and the demands of customers by affordably managing environmental expectations and responsibilities.

Level 2 certification introduces additional levels of management and control including the tracking of waste streams and brings in a focus on your energy consumption and carbon footprint. SGP Level 2 provides key performance indicators for printing businesses covering waste, recycling, energy, water, incident management, storage and handling of printing chemicals, energy and air emissions.
